How to Find Your Appliance Model Number

Parts are matched to the model number, so it is the one thing you need before you order. It is printed on a label or plate on the appliance itself. Pick your appliance to see where to look.

Washer

  • Top-load: under the lid, on the back of the control panel, or on the top rear of the cabinet.
  • Front-load: on the frame around the door opening, or on the back of the cabinet.
  • Stacked laundry center: inside the dryer door opening, or on the lower front frame.

Dryer

  • On the frame around the door opening, visible with the door open.
  • On the back of the dryer, near the vent or the power cord.
  • On some models, on the side or the back of the control panel.

Refrigerator & freezer

  • Inside the fresh-food section, on a side wall near the top or on the ceiling.
  • Behind or under the crisper drawers: pull them out to see it.
  • On some models, at the bottom front behind the kick plate, or inside the freezer.

Dishwasher

  • On the edge of the door (top or side), visible when you open it.
  • On the side of the tub opening, the frame the door closes against.
  • On some models, behind the kick plate at the bottom.

Range, oven & cooktop

  • Behind or under the storage, warming or broiler drawer: pull it out and look at the frame.
  • On the frame around the oven door opening, visible with the door open.
  • Cooktop: on the underside of the cooktop, or on the cabinet below it.

Microwave

  • Inside the door frame, or on the inside wall of the cooking cavity.
  • Over-the-range: on the underside, on the front frame behind the door, or behind the vent grille at the top.
  • Countertop: on the back or the bottom.

Model number or serial number?

The label usually shows both. The model number is marked “Model”, “Model No.”, “M/N” or “MOD”. The serial number (“Serial”, “S/N”, “SER”) identifies your single unit. Parts are matched to the model number; keep the serial handy too, because some brands change a part partway through a model's production.

  • Take a photo of the label so you have it when you shop.
  • Copy every letter and digit, including the ones at the end: they often mark a different version of the same appliance.
  • Use the label on the appliance, not the manual or the box, which may list several models.
